Smoky Mountain River Romp, tubing on the Little Pigeon RiverSEVIERVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA – Just a short 5 miles from Dollywood and all the tourist inspired mega attractions and theaters that make up the Sevierville/Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is a fun family oasis that feels like it’s worlds away from civilization.

One of the best kept family travel secrets the region has to offer, a day spent at the Smoky Mountain River Romp will keep the entire family happy and it won’t set your wallet back much.

Situated at a particularly scenic turn of the Little Pigeon River, the romp offers guests the opportunity to leisurely float down that liquid road in tubes or kayaks. Pick up the phone located at end point and a friendly river romp staff member will chauffeur you back to the tree shaded home base facilities where you can do it all over again.

The two and half mile trip takes about 2 hours by tube. It’s fun for families and groups of friends to tie their tubes together and float down the river en masse. A cooler filled to drinks and snacks can float along with you and helps turn the relaxing trip into a party. Kayakers can complete the gentle course in about 45 minutes.

Whether you opt to tube or kayak one low price lets you use the equipment, life jackets, facilities, and pick up services for the whole day, making the Smoky Mountain River Romp one of the most affordable attractions in these parts. If you’re part of the military, a church group, or a first responder you’ll get a discount on the already low price (as of this writing in 2009, $12.00 for tubing, $18.00 for kayaks). You can even save on lunch by bringing a picnic lunch to enjoy by the river’s edge or at a nearby picnic table. A small store with snacks and water accessories will fill in the gaps of essentials you might have forgotten.

Spending a day on the river is a far cry from the bustling theme parks and attractions. The relaxed pace allows time for actual conversations and bonding between participants in way that too often gets lost with modern living’s frenetic pace.
Practicalities

Conditions on the Little Pigeon River can change (in rare drought years there’s even the possibility of the romp closing), so it’s best to call in advance for information.

There are no height or weight restrictions, children as young as two can go, providing they ride in a tube with their parents.

The staff at the Smoky Mountain River Romp runs the course themselves every day before the first guest arrives, so they can advise you on things to look for and current course conditions. This is a gentle float trip – no rapids – and suitable for most anybody. The staff is even experienced at working with mobility challenged individuals to give them the same fun river experience as everyone else.

The Smoky Mountain River Romp is located at 1980 Pittman Center Road in Sevierville, TN 37876. Phone 865-774-5994 or visit their website at www.riverromp.net.
