However, first things first. Before we talk about some of the new things you can do with hot sauce, let's talk about how to make a classic wing sauce. This wing sauce can then find its way into the new dishes below.
1. Classic Buffalo Wing Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:- 1 stick butter
- 1 bottle hot sauce
- 1 teaspoon or more of cayenne, optional
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
Directions:
- Bring the butter to room temperature; slice the butter into tablespoon-sized pieces and melt in a skillet over medium heat; add the hot sauce and bring it to a boil.
- Quickly stir in the cayenne or garlic powder and remove from heat.
2. Buffalo Crab Ranch Dip
Take either store bought crab dip or this recipe and let it walk on the wild side with some classic wing sauce.Ingredients:
- 1 package cream cheese
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 onion, minced
- 2 green onions, minced
- 6-ounces imitation crab
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1/4 cup wing sauce
Directions:
- Mix all ingredients.
- Chill before serving.
3. Fiery Hummus
Hummus is easy to make. All you have to do is blend chickpeas with olive oil, tahini (sesame paste), and spices. Then you can add hot sauce and make it fiery hummus.Ingredients:
- 2, 14-ounce cans of chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
- 1 tablespoon tahini
- 2 tablespoons garlic powder
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup wing sauce
Directions:
- In a food processor, add the chickpeas and pulse 10 times to break them up; add the tahini and garlic powder and pulse another 2 to 3 times.
- Turn the food processor on and slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the hummus has a creamy consistency. Note: you may not use all of the olive oil.
- Finally, pour in the buffalo sauce and mix by hand.
4. Nuclear Spaghetti
Spaghetti is good. Spaghetti with buffalo sauce is Super Bowl worthy.Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, minced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt
- 1 pound ground hamburger
- 1 tablespoon oregano
- 2, 14 1/2- ounce cans tomato sauce
- 1 bunch fresh basil
- 1/2 cup wing sauce
In a skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and let it get hot; add the onion, garlic, and a pinch of salt; cook until the onions are translucent. Add the onions and cook until all pink is gone.
Add the tomato sauce and bring it to a boil; add the leaves of the basil and the wing sauce; stir and serve over pasta.
5. Buffalo Popcorn
It's easy to add extra flavor to average popcorn with melted butter; it's also easy to add heat to popcorn by adding buffalo sauce.Ingredients:
- 1 bag microwave popcorn
- 1/4 cup wing sauce
Directions:
- Prepare the popcorn according to package directions; pour into a bowl. Next, very carefully sprinkle about a tablespoon of hot sauce over the popcorn and mix; add another tablespoon and mix; repeat until all of the hot sauce is gone.
- The reason for adding the hot sauce so slowly is that if you just pour it in, only a handful of kernels will absorb the hot sauce; they will get soggy and everything else will have no flavor.
6. Buffalo Sushi
That's right, why not add buffalo sauce to sushi? Instead of using raw fish, we'll bake chicken, cover it in buffalo sauce, and turn it into maki.Ingredients:
- 2 chicken breasts
- Salt and pepper
- 1/2 cup wing sauce
- 1 cup sushi rice
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Sprinkle the salt and pepper over the chicken and bake for 22 minutes, or until done all the way through; cover with wing sauce and slice into 1/8-inch slices.
- While the chicken is cooking, put the sushi rice into a rice cooker with hot water and a healthy pinch of salt; cook until the rice is finished, then immediately fluff the rice so that the grains will be light and airy.
- When the rice is cool, mix the sugar and rice wine vinegar; dip your hands into the mixture and grab a ball of rice; shape into an oval and top with chicken. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi on the side.
