While this book is a great addition to any nostalgia buff's library, its title is misleading. It is more a fond reminiscence, complete with full color vintage postcards from some of America's best Mom and Pop roadside motels, than an actual practical travel guide. For that, it would have to be much more comprehensive and include details of how and where to find the independent motels still actually operating today.

So, if your purpose is to look back on the motel, motor court, and tourist camp era of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, this is a fine book. If you want to plan a journey with vintage lodgings, there are better guidebooks.
