While I have consistently loved the books that the fine folks over at Travelers' Tales have put out, this just might be my favorite. Richard Sterling has compiled an invaluable resource for anyone who loves food and travel. So much of the travel experience is intertwined with food and dining but Richard's book has tips for even the most experienced globe trotter. You'll find information on unique customs and dining etiquette. For instance, did you know that you should never eat with your left hand in India or Arabia? Or that the common American phrase "I'm Stuffed" uttered after a particularly filling meal has a very sexual connotation in Australia? There's also tips about things to try, what to expect and how to stay as healthy as possible while still being an adventurous eater. There are chapters on the "holy trinity" of cuisines: China, India and Europe (the West). I particularly enjoyed the chapter entitled "Strange, Wonderful and Taboo" which outlined delicacies that are common in other lands, but may be a trifle, shall we say, unusual here. Anyone who has an even remote interest in international cuisines and adventurous dining should never leave home without this handy pocket sized guide in tow.
