Time Saving Tips

  • For easy storage and thawing of ground meats, before freezing divide the meat into several equal parts and place between pieces of wax paper. Use a rolling pin to flatten meat into a thin, wide patty. Layer the wax paper and rolled out patties and store in a large freezer bag. Not only do the thin patties take less freezer space than the store wrapped heap of meat, they also take less time to defrost and you can defrost only the amount you need! Especially handy if you're buying in bulk and only cooking for two!

  • We love S'Mores when sitting around the campfire, and instead of using chocolate squares, we use Nutella! My husband also likes to use chunky peanut butter either alone or with the Nutella. We like using the Nutella in place of the chocolate squares because it's already creamy, and easy to store and use.

  • If you have a meat & potatoes, veggie & salad type of family, this is a good time saver. Put as many potatoes as you need in large pot, leave skins on.cover with water and put on top of potatoes a large piece of heavy duty aluminum foil. Put fresh ears of sweet corn on top of the foil and cover (if you don't have a lid large enough, place a second piece of foil on top of corn). When potatoes start cooking, corn will steam and both will be cooked at the same time, using the foil as a server & also keeping it hot till ready to eat. Mean while, your steak or hamburgers are cooking. Time it accordingly. Potatoes should take about 1/2 hr. Also, put your cut up salad in a large plastic bag and shake, with or without salad dressing. This saves time and dish washing. A delicious meal just like you were home, in about 45 minutes with prep. & cooking.
