Collage is a fabulous way to let your creative side run wild - there are endless possibilities using all sorts of materials. But sometimes when a craft has endless possibilities, new crafters don't know where to begin. For some people this problem becomes so overwhelming that they never even try their hand at an art and/or craft that would become a rewarding creative outlet for them. If you've ever felt that way about collage, this is the book for you. The author explores over a dozen techniques commonly used in collage art, then incorporates those techniques into twelve collage projects, shown with detailed photos and instructions. While collage is so eclectic you will probably never duplicate the projects verbatim, they can provide inspiration for collage projects that are all your own style. Throughout your collage experiences you'll never have to fear “blank canvas syndrome†as the author provides background images that make great foundations for all kinds of collage art. Although you shouldn't that that statement literally. While many of the collage art pieces in this book are in fact done on canvas, the author uses all kinds of items to make collages including small metal tins (now you have a use for empty breath mint tins), small watch makers tins, wood, and shadow boxes. This book was so well done, it inspired me to buy another title in this publisher's series -- Altered Books Workshop. It proved to be another great title, but in reality, anyone interested in Altered Books would do well to check out Collage Discovery Workshop aand vice versa and most techniques can be used for both. Technique Chapters Include: Creating Backgrounds: Glazing Paint, Peeling Paint, Textured Paint, Peeling Paper. Making Image Transfers: Heat Transfers Onto Glass, Heat Transfers Onto Wood, Caulking Transfers, Contact Paper Transfers. Having Fun with Beeswax: Wax Collage, Wax Transfers, Wax Stamping. Antiquing Found Objects: Antiquing with Acrylic Paint, Rusting Metal with Vinegar and Bleach, Using an Instant Rust Kit, Creating a Verdigris Patina. Project Chapters Include: Experimenting in Collage Creating Miniature Assemblages Playing with Composition Storytelling with Collage |
