Split pea soup is a comfort food favorite, but really loses something when it comes out of a can. Here's an easy recipe to make your own split pea soup at home.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups split peas
- 4 1/2 cups boiling water
- 1/2 cup celery, diced
- 1/2 cup carrots, diced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
- 1 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Wash peas and add water.
- Sauté celery, carrots, and onion together in bacon drippings.
- Combine vegetables to peas and water; simmer until peas are soft, about 45 minutes; season to taste.
