For all you camping buffs out there, here's one for the road! I know you're not, but if you were one of those people who thinks camping takes little skill and little knowledge this small gems sets the record straight. THE BASIC ESSENTIALS OF CAMPING is filled with Jacobson's suggestions for selecting and using camping gear effectively, suggestions for building a fire efficiently, directions on using the right cutting tools, and how to rig a snug camp with four basic knots and hitches. In addition he offers valuable ides on using a map and compass. Specific contents include the following chapters and more:

  • Choosing a Camp Stove
  • Expert Camping Procedures
  • Tasty Routes to Dining Out
  • The Cutting Edge

Additionally there's a short list of manufacturers of outdoor supplies and equipment. The back cover tells us the author of this book in the Basic Essentials series is an outdoor writer and wilderness guide. He serves as an outfitter for the Science Museum of Minnesota, a canoeing consultant, and the author of more than a dozen books on camping and canoeing. He calls River Falls, Wisconsin, home.
