Author Notes: When my friend Margie heard I was writing a Christmas cookbook, she forwarded this recipe from her colleague, associate professor Larry Doll. His margaritas are served at the holiday parties held at the Charles Moore House for the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture. Larry does not think that a salt rim is right with the cranberry drink. He suggests a section of red grapefruit as a garnish. I favor a more traditional approach and use a thinly sliced round of lime. I agree that salted glasses would be a mistake, but you might try running a bit of cut lime around the rim and dipping it in sugar.
Ingredients: 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
1/4 cup orange liqueur such as Triple Sec, Citronage, or Grand Marnier
1/2 cup tequila - silver or other 100% agave
1/2 cup cranberry juice
ice cubes for shaking and serving
4 thin slices of lime for garnish
Instructions: Combine the lime juice, liqueur, tequila and cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake. Pour into ice-filled jelly glasses. Garnish each glass with a lime slice and serve.

Tip:
These go down easily, but be warned – they are very potent.
