When you are dry camping (no hookups) cooking can be more of a challenge. Generally you are trying not to use much water so you don't have to head to the dump station and if you need to run the microwave, it means using the generator or running down the batteries.

But dry camp cooking needn't be stressful, if you plan ahead. The following article will give you an entire week's worth of meals that will need very little dishes and clean up.

The best approach to cooking without hookups for extended periods of time is to have several meals cooked and in the freezer. When packaging meals that need to be reheated, I use disposable aluminum containers because you can heat them in the propane oven or even the outdoor grill. When you buy the containers, select shapes that stack well in your freezer. Use aluminum foil to cover.  Save money and the envoronment by saving aluminum containers throughout the year from takeout and prepared foods and reuse them.

Pasta is one of our favorite foods but it takes a lot of water to prepare and clean up, so I cook my pasta in advance. I use an actual dinner plate to measure the amounts for each person. Then I slide the necessary servings for one meal into a plastic bag and freeze. Pasta reheats exceptionally well.

I make many meals on the gas grill. I've included a few recipes at the end of this article. I also love the broasted chickens found in most grocery stores. I will usually get 3 meals out of one chicken. So if you use all the recipes in this article with two or three meals from your freezer, you can get through a whole week with very few dishes to wash.
