By Robert C. Etheredge

It is important to be able to distinguish between heat exhaustion and heat stroke as heat stroke can be fatal.

Heat Exhaustion Cool, MOIST skin, sweating, headache dizziness Give water and salt. Put on cool clothing. Rest in shade.
Heat Stroke Hot, DRY skin, dizziness, headache, confused, rapid breathing, rapid pulse, unconscious, high body temp above 105°F This is a medical emergency. Lower the body temperature immediately. Move to shade. Remove clothing. Bathe in cool/cold water and fan to increase cooling.
