Civil War Re-EnactmentTubing, trees, and talent join forces to create a Civil War re-enactment event at two of Delaware State Parks. And, you're invited to see what the famous war between the states was like. At Brandywine Creek State Park this year's CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENT is based on the final days of the Virginia Campaign of 1865. May 27-28, 2000, visitors are invited to share the battle of Farmville on Saturday and Appomattox on Sunday.

The battles begin promptly at 1 p.m. on both days. The camp setting opens to the public at 8:30 a.m. Demonstrations begin at 9 a.m. and run continuously until the battle begins. The entertaining and educational event provides a great day for the entire family.

This program won the 1997 Governor Tourism Award for Outstanding Multi-Day Event in the state. The two-day vehicle pass is $20 in advance or $15 per day at the gate. The first 100 advance tickets include priority parking. Walk-in admittance is $5 per person per day.

Another celebration takes place August 19-20 at Fort Delaware. The GARRISON WEEKEND is the premier event of the year at Fort Delaware. Over 300 reenactors recreate the garrison as it in the grim summer of 1864. Visitors may participate as civilian inspectors reporting on conditions at the post. Cooks, laundresses, blacksmiths, settlers, soldiers, and politicians are in attendance. Attendees may talk to confederate prisoners or sit as jurors at the court martial of William Douglas, accused of shooting down a rebel officer.

Military music entertains from the lively fiddles of the off-duty soldiers and their friends. Delaware State Park CampingInteractive demonstrations, drills, and a host of activities for children take place each day. The day includes 19th-century cooking, historic crafts, live cannon firings, and more.
