O.K. You've been out camping, caught a few fish, bagged a bear and deer, and slew a squirhref. Now what are you going to do? No matter who's the cook in the family, you'll want to savor the catch by preparing it to perfection. To do that, I recommend you pick up a copy of this well-written guide to recipes and traditions from America's great outdoors.
What makes this book so interestingly unique is that it's more than a cookbook. It's a compilation of contributions made by members of the Outdoor Writers Association of America. In it, they've shared their recipes and culinary wisdom. What you get is some sound advice by some of the best outdoor writers in the country. For starters, the book contains 76 recipes and advice for cooking a variety of dishes. There are chapters on game and game birds, venison, waterfowl, shellfish, and using nature's bounty. You can try such victuals as "Sounds-Terrible-But-Tastes-Great Baked Bluefish," "Casserole of Smoked Trout," "Prickly Pear Omelet," "South of the Border Cottontail Casserole," and "Hot/Sweet Barbecued Bear Ribs." The book's back cover says it all: Campsite to Kitchen is teeming with the bounty of the great outdoors as it guides you through memorable experiences and savory recipes. Nationally recognized outdoor writers light the fires of hunting and fishing camps with stories of days gone by and traditions that will outlive us all."
