Anyone who considers themselves a Collector's Press have created a beautifully produced book filled with lots of black and white historical photos along with full color pictures and vintage menu reproductions and restaurant ads. This is loving tribute to the heritage of Jewish delicatessens in America and all the greats are covered along with some that are sure to become new finds in your quest for great deli food. The book is equal parts historical treatise, travel guide and cookbook, making it a wonderful gift for anyone who loves delis, whether or not they cook themselves. Of course, those handy in the kitchen will love the recipes that will allow them to recreate America's favorite deli foods at home. Author Sheryll Bellman traveled all over the country doing research for this book (tough job, but someone's got to it). The result of her labors is a classy, informative and fun book that's equally at home on the coffee table as it is in the kitchen. Chapters Include: Introduction: From a Peddler's Cart to a Cultural Tradition; A History of Delis: A Timeline from 6000 BCE to the Present; Deli Food Histories: From Chopped Liver to Cheesecake; Deli 101: Yiddishisms and Deli-Speak; Behind the Counter: Popular Delis and Recipes; In Conclusion: That's a Wrap.
