GRAND COUNTY, COLORADO, USA -- Year after year, Colorado's Grand County proves itself as the perfect year-round vacation and getaway destination. Its sights, activities, amenities, and location (Denver is just 90 minutes away) make it the perfect place to explore all the Rockies have to offer.

Winter, of course, means alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, and snowmobiling. Summer offers hiking, mountain biking, rodeos, golf, and trail rides. Excellent boating and fishing are available on many lakes and reservoirs, and the stream fishing is some of the best around.

The area serves as the southern gate to Rocky Mountain National Park. There are plenty of camping and RV facilities in the area, including:

Rocky Mountain National Park has several campgrounds. The Timber Creek Campground, on the south side of the park, is open all year. It has 100 tent sites set on high ground overlooking the Kawuneeche Valley and Colorado River. Group camping is available during the winter.

The US Forest Service's Sulphur Ranger District maintains campgrounds throughout the area, including the Arapaho National Recreation Area (Lake Granby, Shadow Mountain Lake, Willow Creek Reservoir), the Winter Park and Fraser area, the Williams Fork Valley, and various undeveloped "dispersed" sites.

The YMCA of the Rockies maintains two large camping/lodge/conference facilities in Colorado. The Snow Mountain Ranch campus, just outside of Granby, offers 61 RV and tent sites, some with hookups. Amenities include showers, child care, chapel, indoor swimming pool, basketball, miniature golf, Nordic skiing, hiking trails, and craft shop.

Elk Creek Campground is a private campground in Grand Lake, near the gate to Rocky Mountain National Park. It is open year 'round, and caters especially to snowmobilers during the winter. It has 50 RV sites (some with hookups) and 10 tent sites. Showers are available.

The Winding River Resort Village is another private resort in Grand Lake. It offers 150 tent/RV sites, some with hookups, and some horse campsites. Amenities include showers, laundry, store, horse rides, and a petting zoo in summer.

Red Mountain RV Park is a privately-run site near Kremmling offering tent sites and RV sites with full hookup.

The Wolford Campground at the nearby Wolford Reservoir is run by the same people, and offers tent and RV sites, including large group sites. There is a discount on boat rentals for anyone staying at the Wolford Campground.
