SEVIERVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA –- When the group I was traveling with to Sevierville, Tennessee decided to spend an afternoon riding ATV’s (that’s all terrain vehicles for the uninitiated), I admit to feeling somewhat disappointed. I had no interest in tooling around the woods on some loud obnoxious macho machine that would roll through streams and over rocks or any other obstacles in its way.
I have to admit that the environmentalist in me still has some trouble reconciling the fact that, despite my trepidation, the experience was a whole lot of fun!
We got our helmets and climbed aboard Yamaha Grizzly 450’s (the name even sounds macho) 4 wheeled vehicles with enormously fat tires capable of handling anything the trails throw at them. After a quick lesson in how to handle the fully automatic ATV’s we took off through the woods on a mountain adventure.
Bluff Mountain ATV Adventures offers rides for ATVers of all experience levels, as long as you’re over the age of 12. Rides take place on 6000 acres of trails on private property that winds along scenic mountain ridges overlooking spectacular Smoky Mountain vistas.
Sure the ride provided the opportunity to take in some glorious scenery. But what really made it fun was the sheer rush of climbing up and down steep trails and splashing through streams oblivious of the mud.
Experienced guides accompany you on your ride, which is handy as there’s so many trails crossing the property it helps to have someone who knows not only where they are going, but also where the most scenic overlooks and points of interest are.
