Wilderness Resort Water Park, Sevierville, TNSEVIERVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA – How can an area’s most expensive hotel turn out to be the best bargain in town for families? When your lodgings come with unlimited free access to three (count them 3!) first class water parks. Sure the price of a room at the Wilderness Resort will set you back more than most of the Sevierville area’s 4,000 plus hotel, motel, cabin, condo and campground units. But look at a little closer and factor in the perks you’d have to pay for elsewhere and you may just find that you spend less at the Wilderness Resort and you’ll be a hero to your kids.

There’s no doubt the three water parks are the big attraction here, and the only way you can use the facilities is to be a resort guest – no tickets sales are offered to the general public.

The larger main outdoor park features the Cataloochee Creek, a nearly 1,000 foot rapid-moving river with spray features surrounding the park’s perimeter. Poolside luxury cabanas are available for rent for those who want to relax in comfort and with a little privacy while still keeping an eye on the Wilderness Rapids wave pool.

The outdoor Salamander Springs park while having slides large enough to amuse big kids and adults, also offers a lot of features especially designed for younger kids.

Wilderness Resort, Sevierville, TNThe crown jewel of the resort, however, is the 60,000 square-feet Wild Water Dome Park. Winter, spring, summer or fall, adults and kids alike can enjoy a dazzling array of wet fun. Grab a tube and jump into the Lake Wilderness Wave pool, a 12,000-square-foot wave pool where waves can reach up to 5-feet tall. The Trail Twisters twin tube slides provide a hair raising ride. Combining the thrills and skills of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding the Surf Rider creates a five-foot ocean-like wave as 19,000 gallons of water each minute flow under you.

For the ultimate adrenaline rush, conquer the Storm Chaser. Four guests plummet 55 ft down a thrilling, dark tunnel ride before dropping through a zero gravity fall into a funnel where they experience several fast oscillations before splashing into a pool below.

If all the water thrill rides are too much, families can have fun at Washout Mountain, a multi-leveled water playground featuring two slides and lots of spraying water features. Kids will clamor at the sounds of the warning bell to find the best splash-down area under the enormous tipping bucket. Compete in a water war and blast each other with water cannons and avoid the soakers on your way up to the water slides. For those who really want to slow down indoor and outdoor hot tubs will sooth the stress away.

As you can tell the water parks are quite elaborate and the main focal and selling points of the resort, not merely a small water slide installed to attract a few more tourists. You’d pay a bundle to take the family for a single day to a private park of this caliber and at the Wilderness you receive unlimited use with the room. The bargains continue when you realize a single night’s stay can gain you water park access for two days – the night you stay and until 4 PM the following day. Parents can also save on the food budget here as kids eat free when an adult dines with them.

Large or extended families traveling together will discover lth resort kept them in mind when coming up with room designs. Single rooms can easily expands into suites perfect for housing mom and dad, grandpa and grandma and the kids, with 3 sleeping areas, multiple bathrooms and kitchenette. Everyone staying in the room gets water park passes for the duration of the visit.

With so may fun attractions, your family may not want to leave the resort. I urge you to do so however, the Sevierville area has a lot more to see and do (see the Related Travel links below). Don’t worry, since you have instant access to the parks until 10PM every day, you and the kids can always sneak in an extra ride or two on the Storm Chaser whenever you have a spare minute or after dinner and before heading off to your room for a good night’s sleep.

I guess if you have a young family and friends then this would be an ideal outing! For those who desire a more challenging outing with their children I would consider canoeing, or trail riding and or rock climbing.
